North Karelian companies expand their international operations into the Russian markets

The Joensuu Regional Development Company JOSEK Ltd, Keski Karjala Regional Development Company KETI Oy, Pielisen Karjala Regional Development Company PIKES Oy, and the North Karelia Chamber of Commerce launched a new Russian trade project in the beginning of 2008. The objective of the North Karelian Economic Developmental Russia Programme is to promote business ties between Russia and Finland, provide solutions to the service needs of companies, and encourage North Karelian companies to extend their operations into the Russian market. The project also aims at creating and establishing a new provincial model for corporate services and developing the logistics position of the Niirala border-crossing point.

As a result of the programme, permanent consultancy services will be launched in North Karelia to provide companies with assistance on their Russian operations. Project measures include general and special consultancy for companies, development and marketing of the Niirala logistics centre’s new operational model, management and development of relations with the authorities in Russia, establishment of a trade-oriented Russia forum, and creation of a regional Russia strategy. The project will be partially financed from the European Regional Development Fund, which facilitates the implementation of the measures everywhere in Russia. The Russia programme will end at the end of 2010.
